Nirmala Waterhouse - Ñanduti Fiberwork

Tell me about your art and the inspiration(s) behind it.

My inspiration to make Ñanduti comes through from a few avenues. First, to carry the craft of my heritage and keep it going. Also, making the Ñanduti makes me feel connected to that heritage and my grandmother who did embroidery. I also wish to create beauty; I think beauty in the world is important. I also love ornateness in art and nature.

“Land really is the best art.”

If you could be anywhere in Oregon’s nature where would you be?

My favorite nature spot in Oregon is very hard to choose! I love Cedar Creek, Fall Creek, and the McKenzie River.
